All over the world the eyes are on the US. This is truly a day in history. Today we swear in our new president and a new era. Our first African-American president, our first internet president, a president so smart that he has the wisdom to put his former adversaries in his inner circle of advisors - his brain trust. The whole world is watching and it's thrilling.

Let's Ride the Wave Together
All over the world the eyes are on the US. This is truly a day in history. Today we swear in our new president and a new era. Our first African-American president, our first internet president, a president so smart that he has the wisdom to put his former adversaries in his inner circle of advisors - his brain trust. The whole world is watching and it's thrilling.

I'm amazed at how often I feel myself choking up and tearing up as I feel the sense of hope, of pride, of optimism physically rise in my body.

Barack Obama has his hands full, and the world prays that he - and his team of experts - will be able turn this ship around. My money's on him. He is a strong leader - a positive leader - one who knows how to stir up the nobility that exists in all of us and build our capacity for positive emotion. Can you feel it?

Martin Luther King said , "We have an opportunity to make a better nation," and Barack is challenging us to do so. Today he ushers in the era of responsibility, accountability and has us all believing we can be a little better than we are. I love that! He's a good guy to have in charge. Like the boss that encourages you to stretch, even further than you thought possible, he is already moving people out of their comfort zones and into their better selves. In his presence people feel good.

Each time I walk away from my work to watch a little of what's happening - the many families that have saved for months and have taken buses, traveling 10 -12- 20 hours to stand outside in the bitter cold so they and their children can be part of this historic occasion, my heart swells with joy at what I am seeing.

Barack Obama, a positive leader, is building a huge amount of psychological capital for this country and the whole world. While we may be still mourning the loss of trillions of dollars in financial capital, today we are rich with hope, optimism, confidence and resilience. Positive emotion abounds. As he begins to focus this enormous energy, I suspect we will feel a power unleashed that will sustain us during the challenging times ahead.

As he took the oath of office, millions of young people felt differently about themselves and their prospects for a positive future. Millions of people of all ages were uplifted - all at the same moment - and transported by a vibration of hope that has never - ever - been shared by so many at the same time.

All around the world people assembled to share that moment together, their happiness contagious and spread rapidly. My prayer is that even the cynics were able to feel and share in that moment, wishing him the very best and holding a space for his success in healing this country, and perhaps with our example, the world.

He is asking us all to participate - to volunteer, to serve, to give of ourselves, to become our best selves.

Where will you start? Are you ready?

The time is now. Use the momentum of this day, the range of positive emotions (which expand our thinking) to imagine your best self, to create a picture of what you can do to make this planet we share a better place to be.

Use your creative powers - expanded with positive emotion - to think about how you can turn moments of truth into moments of magic, how you can add a little more value to everything you to, how you can spread the contagion of caring to everyone you touch. Caring IS contagious and if we ride the wave of what is happening in Washington today, we CAN change the world.

You already embody the spirit of service. Now it's time for us to widen the circle, spread the word and make sure that you are mentoring others, leading by example, going the extra mile, consciously spreading kindness, opening your heart and living your values. Exquisite customer experiences will follow.

As you've heard me say so many times before - happiness is choice. Being present in your life is a choice, being upbeat, looking for good and for solution - all choices. I think it's a great time to make some commitments - ones that are personal and just for yourself, and some that are public and will help others.

As we watch Dr Martin Luther King's dream come true together, we will know deeply that anything is possible and that we have the power to change our world - and the whole world - for good.

Let's get to it!
