Tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!

Performance management, as in "you ain't cutting it fella" is one of the most difficult aspects of management today. The prescribed progressive litany of documentation in verbal and written warnings and performance improvement plans is usually very poorly executed, and even when in place provides only a minimal defense. Aversion and fear rules for management, the process is almost universally resented by employees, and we still usually have to settle out of court. There is an easier way out of this mindlessness that acts in the best interests of all parties.

Imagine for a moment, that the whole truth would be told all of the time. Given your investment in recruiting you would be committed to his or her success - and would indeed intervene to ensure your recruit is on the right track. There would be no, "you ain't cutting it fella," because your expectations would be clear and the follow up and your commitment would be there from day one. It would be more like, "I know I'm not cutting it, what do I need to do differently to meet your expectations." That would likely result in very different conversation, and one that would likely have a positive outcome.

Bureaucracies tend to handcuff well meaning people into mindless activities when telling the simple truth - the whole truth - would quickly surface and resolve the issues. Telling the truth and surfacing the issues is one of the first steps to building a high performance culture.

Performance management processes are critical to the development of high performing enterprises. We can help you design compensation systems, develop incentive systems, align balanced scorecards, and implement perfomance management processes that not only keep you out of legal trouble, but truly unleash the enthusiasm of your people.

The preferred approach is to join your organization in a senior line management role and lead change from the 'inside,' implementing more effective performance management processes within the context of your strategic priorities and change effort.

On a project basis we can offer a one or two day session on High Performance, Performance Management. Your managers will bring their experiences of their worst nightmares and greatest challenges. We will bring one slide with the ultimate approach. Your managers will leave with a clear plan and personal commitment to resolve the issues. We can conduct a follow-up session if necessary, but it's usually not necessary.

We can also assist with compensation and especially incentive systems, balanced scorecards and other elements of alignment with your strategy.

High Performance Retail is about the implementation and execution of proven best practices for breakthroughs in performance on the front lines, where breakthroughs in performance are defined as: significant and sustainable increases in sales and bottom line profits; accompanied by aligned, positive and committed people; and exceptionally satisfied and loyal customers.
